In Revelation 6:8, the fourth horse of the Apocalypse, whose rider is Death, is given the power to kill with the sword, with famine and with the wild beasts of the earth. Typically, this has been interpreted that war, death and famine will ravage the earth in the Latter Days (now). And certainly, we are seeing evidence of this.
As metaphysical truth students and healers, however, we consider another subtle, esoteric analysis. The sword represents speaking the word, telling the truth and slaying oneself and others in the Spirit. This is the active or masculine polarity of the power of power.
What does famine mean? One thing it represents is withdrawing our power from any thought, feeling, memory or action that is not in alignment with spiritual truth; that is a misuse or abuse of power. To transmute error, we no longer feed it or give it our energy. We starve it to death.
Let’s say you have affirmed, decreed and visualized some higher truth and image coming into your life. Having done so, now step back and let the One Power bring it forth. Remember that of yourself you do nothing, but Spirit does all things through you. Therefore, stop feeding your mortal notion that you are the prime mover or that you are in control. Starve these mortal tendencies and temptations to death. Let go and let Power Itself flow.
Also, stop putting yourself down and beating yourself up for some past mistake or misuse of power. Yes, atone for your miscues, but don’t wallow in guilt and shame. Don’t keep hitting yourself upside your head. Starve this self-punishment to death. God loves and forgives you!
Having wielded the sword with a friend, family member or foe, step back from any further outer exchange with this person. Instead, speak the word in the silence, by way of your private prayers and projections. Having said your piece, to say anything more outwardly may be a waste of time or even make matters worse. Stand your ground, stand in your power and truth, and let things unfold. Starve to death any desire you have to force things or to cast your pearls before swine.
Mahatma Gandhi of India said that we are not to cooperate with error or evil. Yes, we try at first to engage people, to share our insights with them, and to educate and inspire them. If they resist and persist in their negativity, however, pull back and do not cooperate with them. Do not allow yourself to be entangled in their nonsense. Douse the drama. Starve it to death. To put it in addiction terminology, allow the person to hit bottom.
This is the passive or divine feminine use of our power of power -- stand back and withdraw your energy from the fray. However, do not let people take advantage of you or abdicate your responsibility to work spiritually with others. Continue to see the Christ in them. But, do not take their bait to get you involved in their nonsense, only to have them blame you for their problems.
When do you speak and act outwardly, and when do you work behind the scenes? Ask Spirit to guide you in these often difficult choices. Be wise as a serpent, gentle as a dove.
Destroy error by speaking the word and by starving it to death. As the Holy Spirit pours forth upon you in this Pentecostal season, resurrect a new heaven on a new earth. So be it.
