Starting Monday, April 12, 2021, and continuing for one week, we are going to quicken, purify and enlighten our pineal gland that secretes the hormone melatonin. Along with the body's other six endocrine glands, the pineal gland expresses and manifests the I Am power of wisdom-justice-judgment. The corresponding color to this power is green.
Our pituitary gland, the so-called master gland of the endocrine system, correlates with our
soul-subconscious-astral body. Via our third-eye chakra/pituitary gland, we peer into, evaluate and wisely balance our entire soul or akashic record.
Via our crown chakra/pineal gland, we become a I Am judge in light-body consciousness. Just as our pituitary gland is the direct endocrine link with the astral body, so the pineal gland is the direct endocrine link with the light body, the etheric form.
Sleep-Wake Cycle
The name "pineal" comes from the Latin word that means "pine cone." This is because early anatomists saw that the pineal is in the shape of a pine cone. It is located more or less in the center of the head, but somewhat above and posterior to the pituitary gland. (See drawing above.) It is about the size of a grain of rice (5-8 mm).
During the daytime, when light enters our eyes, our pineal gland does not secrete melatonin. However, when it gets dark at nighttime, the pineal gland secretes increasing amounts of melatonin, until it reaches peak secretion at about 2-3 AM. Melatonin causes us to sleep. The more melatonin, the longer and the better we sleep.
A good night's sleep is essential to maintaining the health of our physical body, a well as our mental and emotional bodies. At night, our body, as signaled by rising levels of melatonin, goes into its repair and recuperative mode. Our respiratory and heart rates decrease, our body temperature lowers, our muscles relax and our body removes toxic, harmful substances.
Moreover, having sufficient melatonin insures that we have several cycles of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, in which we dream. People who because of illness, or taking drugs that diminish melatonin secretion, do not dream as much or as often. As a result, they awake tired, anxious, depressed and generally imbalanced.
Dreams are a primary way in which we receive guidance and insight from our superconscious or I Am Self. Such input comes into our subconscious mind via these "night visions," and then into our conscious awareness when we awake. In some of our dreams, we are guided by our Christ or I Am Self and by ascended masters and angelic guardians. Such dreams provide the superconscious wisdom-justice-judgment that we seek to heal our mind, body and soul.
Or, if we do not receive the guidance in the dream, we may wake up the next morning with the answer to our question, dilemma or difficulty, which was implanted in us as we slept. That is why we may say, "I will have to sleep on it before making any major decision."
Taking sleeping pills, although they do promote sleep at least when taking them for short periods of time, decreases the amount of melatonin released by our pineal gland; and diminish the number of dream cycles that we have during the night. Anti-anxiety drugs have the same dampening effect on our pineal gland secretion. Taking melatonin supplements or tryptophan that gets converted to melatonin in the body enhance the quantity and quality of our sleep, and improves our ability to receive spiritual guidance via dreams.
Immune System
Proper amounts of melatonin also enhance our immune system. Melatonin that has been secreted into the blood travels to our thymus gland. There it stimulates the production of a type of lymphocyte called a T-lymphocyte, so named because it is produced in the thymus gland. T-lymphocytes differentiate into several types of T-lymphocytes that seek out and destroy bacteria, viruses and cancer cells. Without melatonin, our thymus gland shrivels and even ceases to function at all.
On November 13, 2020, the renown Cleveland Clinic reported a new study that indicates that supplemental melatonin may be effective in both preventing and treating covid-19. This makes sense with what we now know about how melatonin stimulates the thymus gland to produce T-lymphocytes. To read this report, click here.
There also is increasing evidence that supplemental melatonin is effective in both the prevention and treatment of various types of cancer. Melatonin also helps to lesson the negative side effects of traditional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation. Here again, melatonin's proven ability to stimulate the thymus gland is at least part of the reason why this is so. To read about this and the many studies that have led to this conclusion, click here. If you are being treated for cancer, ask your oncologist if melatonin might be added to your therapeutic regimen.
Melatonin also is the body's most powerful anti-oxidant that neutralizes and helps to remove free radicals from the body. The brain uses about 20% of the body's overall oxygen--in other words, the brain functions at a high metabolic rate. Such oxidation creates free radicals that are harmful to the brain unless they are neutralized and destroyed by anti-oxidants. Melatonin also stimulates the production of other antioxidants in the brain and the rest of the body. Therefore, melatonin is essential for good brain health.
Please see the excellent book Melatonin by Russel Reiter, Ph.D. which was published in 1995, to learn more about the anti-oxidant and other properties of melatonin. Although reams of additional research about melatonin has been done in the last 25 years, the main gist and information about it in this book remain highly relevant and readable.
Chief Justice
Melatonin secreted by the pineal gland enters the cerebral spinal fluid that flows around the brain and the spinal cord, thereby protecting them and enhancing their healthy functioning. The cerebrum of the brain serves as the body's central computer that is our primary, direct link with our light body; the spinal cord and nerves are our body's communication system. Our cerebrum manifests our I Am power of faith, whereas our spinal cord and nerves externalize our Christ power of strength.
Melatonin is also secreted into the blood that circulates into the hypothalamus at the base of the brain, which is located between the pineal and pituitary glands. Melatonin therein regulates the secretion of hypothalamic releasing factors that in turn monitor and direct the secretion of the pituitary's nine hormones that travel throughout the body. (We will cover the anatomy and physiology of the hypothalamus in later blogs, when we focus on the power of zeal that expresses via this organ.)
Melatonin in the blood also stimulates the red bone marrow to make all kinds of blood cells, including red blood cells and the five types of white blood cells that are a major component of the body's immune system. It especially promotes T-lymphocytes as mentioned above.
Given all of these major functions and activities, we might well think of the pineal gland as being like the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the USA. In the courtroom of our body, we have seven "justices" or endocrine glands. The pineal gland is the "chief justice" of these seven judges.
Another way to say this is that the pineal gland truly is the master gland of the whole endocrine system. It is said that the pituitary gland is the "master gland" in that in secretes nine hormones. But the secretion of these hormones is regulated by melatonin.
Thus, as stated previously, the pineal gland is the connecting link to the light body, whereas the pituitary is the link to the astral body. In I Am consciousness in our light body, we truly judge righteous judgment, for we see the whole panorama of our soul's experience on Earth, in the astral planes, in the etheric realms, and on other planets throughout the solar system. Under the superconscious guidance of the I Am or high Self, we judge as an ascended master in resurrected Christ consciousness.
Increase Your Level of Melatonin
Over the last 30-40 years, melatonin supplements have become a popular way to increase the amount of melatonin in the body. Many people now take melatonin as a sleep aid. In fact, studies have shown that melatonin is just as effective sleeping pills, but without the side effects and with many benefits.
Moreover, people who fly across multiple meridians to distant lands and have so-called jet lag, take melatonin to reset their biological clock; which cuts in half or more the time that it takes to recover from jet lag. Those who work at night, especially who change shifts on a regular basis, such as nurses, likewise take melatonin to help them sleep.
Studies have shown that stress decreases melatonin secretion in our body, which leads us to be susceptible to disease and dysfunction in our thoughts, feelings and body functions. Therefore, taking melatonin serves as a buffer to help us deal better with our soul challenges; and to make wiser, balanced and more healthy judgments.
Furthermore, as we age, our melatonin levels decrease. Hence the older we are, the more trouble we usually have getting a good night's sleep, and the more prone we are to a host of diseases. Therefore, melatonin supplementation is commonly recommended.
The dosage will be different for different individuals, since everyone's overall body system is unique. But the common advice amongst melatonin specialists is that one starts with a 1 mg tablet at bedtime. However, many people need to take 3 mg, 5 mg tablets or more in order to get the best results. 10 mg may cause one to be sleepy the next morning.
Another approach is to take a time-release melatonin pill that is slowly released throughout the night, mimicking the body's way of secreting melatonin during the night. In fact, this may be the best way to take supplemental melatonin.
Melatonin is available over the counter at health food stores and in the adjoining pharmacy sections at stores like Wal-Mart and Walgreens where they sell vitamins, minerals and other such supplements. However, it is best to purchase melatonin from vitamin companies that have an excellent reputation for high quality supplements.
Tryptophan
Another way to increase melatonin is to take the essential amino acid tryptophan, which the body converts into serotonin and then melatonin. Serotonin is a so-called "happy" neurotransmitter that elevates one's mood; hence the most used anti-depressant medications (SSRI) increase serotonin levels.
However, taking tryptophan will have a similar though not such a pronounced effect as these medications; but without the many side effects SSRI anti-depressants have. Moreover, the body then converts the serotonin to melatonin, as it is needed. (However, many people still need to take anti-depressants, so it is best to consult with a doctor about this, hopefully a physician who knows about the proper use of melatonin and tryptophan.)
I take tryptophan to increase my melatonin levels. Partly, this is because I am in the 2-3% of people who have vivid, technicolor, over-the-top, bizarre dreams when they take melatonin in pill form, dreams that are distorted and do not convey the true guidance of the I Am Self.
Moreover, I think that relying on the body's wisdom to produce just the right amount of serotonin and tryptophan makes more sense than taking a single dose of melatonin, which artificially floods the body with it. I take 1 Gram of tryptophan before going to bed (tryptophan is typically sold in 500 mg tablets, so I take two such tablets to get the 1 gm dose). Then, if I wake up in the middle of the night and cannot get back to sleep, I take a second dose of tryptophan, but only 500 mg, because that is the amount needed to complete the sleep cycle without producing excess melatonin. Studies have shown that this regimen nearly doubles the amount of melatonin secreted by the pineal gland.
Prayers for Pharmaceutical Companies
Above, I have covered just the basic description of melatonin and its multitudinous uses in treating a wide variety of common diseases. However, preliminary, well-done, small scientific studies have begun to document many additional ways that melatonin may relieve or improve conditions such as epilepsy, autism, sudden death syndrome and diabetes. However, larger studies are needed to prove these preliminary findings.
Such studies are not being done primarily because melatonin is a natural substances that cannot be patented. Therefore, no pharmaceutical company wants to spend the vast sums of money needed to do the large studies that would scientifically prove that melatonin is effective in treating multiple disorders. For, it cannot make a significant profit by selling melatonin that is already available over the counter.
As part of our visualizations this week, we can envision major pharmaceutical companies who make billions of dollar a year donating or tithing 10% of their profits to fund such studies of melatonin and studies of other natural therapies such as with various vitamins, minerals and herbs. We visualize new governmental agencies and medical centers where such research can be directed and coordinated. As we see it, so must it be. What a boon this will be in healing humanity!
Meditation Enhances Melatonin
Although there are only a few studies currently about this, it has been documented and proven that regular daily meditation significantly increases melatonin levels. Given what we know spiritually, this only makes good sense. And, this finding serves as a good springboard for us now to focus on visualizing green light in and around and above our pineal gland, to stimulate it, purify it and quicken it; and thereby to bring it to a new and higher level of functioning in its secretion of melatonin.
Once again, as you did last week, before you start this visualization, call upon Sol-O-Man/Mary, Nada-Yolanda, the Apostle James Zebedee, and Archangel Raphael, Hilarion and Lady Master Meta of the Fifth Ray, whose corresponding color is green, to guide you.
Once you are relaxed and settled, envision a sphere or globe of green light whose base is at your pineal gland in the center of your head. The green sphere extends a foot or two above the top of your head, or even more as you go deeper into your meditation. It passes through the crown chakra and astral body into the etheric realms such that you come into communion with your light body, the ascended masters, space visitors and angelic guardians of the etheric and celestial realms.
Ask to be shown any recall of your past experiences in these higher planes where you have trained for this current incarnation and have been given the knowledge about and tools to heal your soul. Perhaps you will remember being incarnated on other planets throughout this solar system where you likewise have developed particular skills in healing your soul and the overall negative soul patterns of groups of people all around on Earth. Maybe you were incarnated on Uranus, for example, which is the Fifth Ray planet for this solar system. Maybe you incarnated on Mars and became proficient in working with scientific approaches and techniques under Serapis Bey, the Chohan of the Fourth Ray.
See the green globe quickening, purifying and uplifting the functioning of your pineal gland, which releases just the right amount of melatonin that enhances your soul healing, and helps you to become a wise, just judge of your entire soul. As part of this, remember all of your good talents developed in this life as well as past lives on Earth; all of your soul karmic credits, as well as those soul imbalances and debits that need healing. In fact, keep focusing on the good or the God Self within you, even as you review and reprogram and rise above your soul debits.
Judge yourself as your I Am Self judges you, not from a lesser, mortal, soul level alone. Judge righteous judgment!
